Database Case Studies

• Stock Pick Generator
  Working alongside investing principals, social media experts, and investing gurus, we have worked for several years on a project that involves a Microsoft Access database used for mining social media stock tips for useful data.  The data is then put through a complex calculation process maintained by our Microsoft Access program which then yields daily signals of stocks to buy or sell.  This system has resulted in a product that has consistently returned over 15% even in a down economy.  Microsoft Access is at the heart of the collection and analysis of this data, on an ongoing and daily basis.

• Graphics Shop Tracker
  We developed a CRM for a graphics shop that printed every Cracker Barrel billboard in the country.  The system kept track of customers, orders, work orders, quotes, shipments etc.  It included a website that collected orders from their clients and allowed the clients to login and check the live status of the orders.  They could also see order history and submit job details via the website.  The work orders were bar coded and printed and put into plastic sleeves that would follow the job around the production environment.  Workers would scan the work order, when their task was completed and the job would be updated on the website.  This prevented many calls to customer service regarding job status.  Finally, the program integrated with the FedEx program to automatically populate the FedEx tracking number, which also update the website with a link to the FedEx delivery job....slick stuff!

• Jewelry Store Manager
  We created an entire management system for a high-end jewelry store including managing customers, sales, repairs, and appraisals.  The program also included inventory control and marketing lists and campaigns.  The system was capable of emailing the customer their sales receipt in pdf format before they even exited the store.  All items were bar coded and taking inventory took less than a couple of hours.  The program was later modified and adapted and retooled to fit a large BMW online car parts establishment.  We later added an eBay component that allows them to simply push a button and publish their products to eBay as new auctions.

• Contact Managers
  Virtually every program has some need to track contacts or customers.  We specialize in keeping the data formats consistent and forcing good data to be input.  This insures that (after a few years of collecting data) that your data is pure and usable, and of course...minable!!!

• Client Managers
  In addition to tracking the actual contact, we have developed client managers that augment the standard tracking of contact information with specific industry data content for specific industries.  This includes, but is not limited to billable services, previous sales, customized preferences etc.

• Data Mining Programs
  One of the most gratifying types of programs that we have build involves data mining.  We have mined data from a variety of sources including SQL server and others.  We are able to track and visualize virtually any type of data through our extensive querying experience.  Put our mind to work on mining your data.

• Ticket Generator
  We developed a ticket generator for a small non-profit organization that was holding a large fundraising event that required ticket sales and ticket tracking. The program tracked ticket sales, create the actual ticket with a scannable barcode, and emailed a pdf of the ticket to customers.  On the date of the event, the system would scan and expire each ticket accordingly.  It really was a convenient way to handle a small to medium sized event for a small non-profit organization, or commercial entity.  The technology developed for this project was the basis and foundation for our email/pdf module used in the Jewelry store tracker.

• Real Estate Expenses
  A mid-sized national Real Estate firm contracted us to create a program that was used to track expenses regarding property and project management.  The program was sent to each of their offices.  Reports could be aggregated between the offices to form a larger system-wide budget.

• Clothing Store Manager & Sales Program
  One project in particular that we have been working on for over 20 years is our clothing store manager. This system tracks purchase orders, sales, customers, alterations etc.  The program integrates with multiple other programs from the industry including a proprietary inventory module and the point of sales software.  Clothing is a tricky type of item to sell.  There are many facets to it, classes, seasons, lengths, widths, sizes, genders, etc.  Access has the ability to keep all of this in their own buckets of information. 

• Drug Testing Module
  One of the very first programs that I created, kept track of clients in a group therapy session and also administered drug tests and provide random drug screen selection.  The tests had to be completely random.  Of course, given a random seed, the output is predictable, but basing the seed off of the millisecond of the clock, it is virtually unpredictable.

• Online Shoe Store Database
  This project tracked multi-tier inventory with thousands of options.  The tiers would allow you to create an exploded inventory based on all of the options.  The data was then fed into an online database using Yahoo Stores.  This project worked for about 5 years until the company sold off the online presence to another larger shoe company with an established web presence.  Still, this database allowed for the creation of some very intricate and manageable code.
